Jo Oliver is the author and illustrator of three books, Pilgrim, Tatiara and The Light. Jo's first book Pilgrim was commended as a Notable Book by The Children’s Book Council of Australia and Jo was shortlisted for the Crichton Award for new illustrators in 2009.
The illustrations for Jo’s books use forms of printmaking. Jo used linocuts in Pilgrim and etching in Tatiara and The Light . The images are then hand painted in vibrant watercolour washes in the colours of the sea.
This illustration is taken form The Light, Jo's latest book, which has just been released in paperback. The book centres around a family living in Montague Island Lighthouse in the early 1900s. Jo shows how music draws the family together as the lighthouse becomes a safe haven for others.
The Light is published by New Frontier Publishing and is out now in paperback.
