The Magnificent Seven has a lot to live up to. The 1960 film starred greats including Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson. The music in the film went on to find a place in popular culture. Bernstein's score was used in the U.S. to advertise Marlboro cigarettes. A similar-sounding (but different) tune was used for Victoria Bitter beer in Australia. It was also included in the James Bond film Moonraker.
Can director Antoine Fuqua bring a modern vision to the classic story The Magnificent Seven and imbue the same musical genius that created a staggering backdrop for the 1960 film?
The contemporary vision for this classic is coming to cinemas in September and stars Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke and Chris Pratt.
With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
