One of Roald Dahls most frightening books, The Witches, is being remade into its second movie adaptation. Most who read the book or saw the first movie as children will remember hiding under the bed terrified of the witches who could change them into mice.
The book follows an unnamed British boy and his grandmother who regales him with tales of witches. The two of them travel to a hotel in Bournemouth but are soon made aware of the presence of witches. Unfortunately, the boy’s encounter with the witches transforms him into a mouse, despite the turn of unfortunate events he still manages to get the better of them.
Viewers of the first movie will remember the terrifying sight of the witches’ faces as they tear off their normal human masks to reveal horrifying features, something that gives nightmares even to the bravest of children.
Now that a second movie adaptation is officially coming we should be prepared to be thrilled and frightened all in good measure.
According to Variety, Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) will direct the movie and write the script, with Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water) and Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) acting as producers. With such a line-up it’s no wonder people are excited about the film remake of Roald Dahl’s book The Witches.
