Almost Love by Louise O’Neill

By Sophia Whitfield

O’Neill has a reputation as a hard-hitting YA author. Almost Love is her first foray into adult fiction.

It tells the tale of Sarah, a young teacher disillusioned with her own artistic abilities. As a result she has settled for a job she doesn’t enjoy.

When Matthew catches her eye she is consumed by her feelings for him, which border on obsession. It doesn't matter that he's twenty years older. That he sees her only in secret. That, slowly but surely, she's sacrificing everything else in her life to be with him.

Sarah's friends and family are concerned for her. She's on the verge of losing everything and everyone she once held dear.

A raw rendering of the destructive nature of obsessive love.

You can buy the book here in Australia and here in the UK.
