Brooklyn director John Crowley is set to direct the adaptation of Donna Tarttís Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Goldfinch. Like Brooklyn, The Goldfinch is a coming of age story set in New York.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy screenwriter Peter Straughan will write the script. The cast is yet to be announced.

Donna Tartt is an acclaimed novelist, essayist and critic. The Goldfinch, her third novel, was published in October 2013. As well as winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, it was also awarded the Andrew Carnegie Award for Excellence in Fiction. It was shortlisted for the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction (formerly the Orange Prize) and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

The novel centres on a young boy in New York City, Theo Decker, who miraculously survives an accident that takes the life of his mother. Alone and abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by a friendís family and struggles to make sense of his new life. In the years that follow, he becomes entranced by one of the few things that reminds him of his mother: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the art underworld.

Although not a prolific writer Donna Tartt has been named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People. You can buy the book in Australia here and in the UK here.
