On June 11, 2013

Sophie McKenzie is the award-winning author of YA fiction. Close My Eyes is her first adult novel and launches her as a new name to watch in the increasingly popular thriller genre.

Eight years ago Geniver Loxley lost her baby daughter. She is a writer, but hasnít written since her daughterís death unable to get her life back on track after suffering such a devastating loss.

Art, Genís husband, has managed to deal with the consequences of their loss far better than Gen. He has a high flying job which allows them both to lead an affluent lifestyle. However Gen has not been able to conceive another child since Bethís death and together with the loss of her child she finds life a permanent struggle.

Then one day the doorbell rings and a stranger stands at her door, a lady who claims to be the sister of the midwife (now deceased) who attended Genís delivery. As Gen had a caesarean, she has little memory of the events surrounding the birth of her daughter. All she remembers is being told that her daughter was disfigured and had been stillborn. Gen never saw her daughter, but Art did. This stranger informs Gen that her baby was in fact born alive and whatís more her husband knew about it. Gen refuses to believe her, but later agrees to meet with her. Days later she discovers the lady has been killed in a car accident.

Genís friends already think her behaviour borders on delusional as a result of her inability to let go of her grief. Gen becomes paranoid; unsure of whom she can trust. When Lorcan, a former colleague of Arts, arrives on the scene she is taken in by his enthusiasm and keen understanding of her plight. He is the only person who seems to believe her and with time on his hands he assists Gen in her mission to uncover the truth.

This thriller will have you up at night as you keenly turn the pages looking for answers. The suspense will keep you guessing right up until the end. A thrilling read.
