Daphne du Maurier spent much of her life in Cornwall where her novels are set. Her most famous novel is Rebecca which has never gone out of print. Known as a romantic novelist, her storytelling has dark, moody undertones. Many of her novels have been adapted into films.
Du Maurier felt that Olivia de Havilland was wrongly cast as the anti-heroine of My Cousin Rachel in the 1951 adaptation. A lesser known novel of du Mauriers it still had the eerie backdrop she had become famous for creating. Rachel Weisz stars as the beguiling Rachel in the latest adaptation. We think du Maurier would approve. Sam Claflin plays her cousin Philip.
A dark romance, My Cousin Rachel, tells the story of a young Englishman who plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms.
