Great news for Disney fans. Emily Blunt is to star as Mary Poppins in a remake to be released in time for Christmas 2018.

It will be over fifty years (1964) since the original, starring Julie Andrews, was first released.

Emily Blunt has shown her singing prowess in Into the Woods where she payed The Bakerís Wife. She will be stepping into big shoes as she follows on the footsteps of Julie Andrews.

Mary Poppins Returns will feature the new role of Jack the lamplighter played by Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of the Broadway hit Hamilton. Perhaps replacing the role of chimney sweep made famous by Dick Van dyke.

Colin Firth, who has just finished a very successful Bridget Jones's Baby, will play William Weatherall Wilkins, the president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. We can definitely see that.

The new film will be a follow up to the original with Jane and Michael Banks now adults. The synopsis reads:

"In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives."

Based on the popular books by P.L. Travers, first published in 1934, Mary Poppins Returns is likely to appeal to a whole new generation of fans.
