Take a first look at Jude Law in Oscar-winner Paolo Sorrentino’s The Young Pope. Law stars as Lenny Belardo, the fictional Italian-American Pius XIII. The Sky, HBO eight-part series is currently shooting and will air next year.

The first photo of Law as Belardo/Pius shows him reclining under the sun in Rome. The storyline revolves around the controversial beginning of Pius’ Pontificate. He has been described as a conflicted man of great power.

The stellar cast also includes Diane Keaton, James Cromwell, Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, and Toni Bertorelli.
