Jessica Lange has reinvented herself with the popularity of American Horror Story. We were thrilled to see her once again on the big screen in The Gambler which opens this Thursday. Take a look at an exclusive clip that features behind the scenes footage including a short interview with Jessica Lange and Mark Wahlberg.
Lange has one of the most interesting lives you can imagine and whether she has any regrets is doubtful. Born to Dutch/German and Finnish parents in Minnesota, her family moved across America numerous times to keep up with her father’s job as a travelling salesman.
At eighteen years of age, she received a scholarship to the University of Minnesota to study art and photography. It was there she met her future husband, a Spanish photographer, whom she married in 1971. After they married, she left college to pursue a more bohemian lifestyle, and travelled around the US and Mexico with her husband.
After the couple moved to Paris, they separated and Lange delved into even more creative avenues, studying mime theatre and joining the Opéra-Comique as a dancer.
She went on to share an apartment in Paris with Jerry Hall and Grace Jones, both respected creatives in their own right. She was discovered by the fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez and subsequently signed to Wilhelmina modelling agency.
She returned to the US in 1973 to model. During this time she was discovered by a Hollywood producer who cast her in her first film role – the ingénue Dwan in King Kong, for which she won a Golden Globe.
With a career spanning nearly forty years, Lange has appeared in 42 film and television titles from 1976 to the present. We take a look back at Lange's iconic roles.
In her feature film debut in the remake of the 1933 classic of the same name, King Kong brought Lange’s name to the fore. While she managed to scoop up a Golden Globe award for Best Acting Debut in a Motion Picture, her performance and the film itself were widely panned by critics, causing Lange to study acting for three years before doing another film.
