Kylie Kaden was raised in Queensland and spent holidays camping with her parents and two brothers at the Sunshine Coast, where much of her first book Losing Kate is set. She now lives in Brisbane with her husband and three young sons. Kaden's second novel, Missing You, has just been released.

Kylie joins us today to select her five most influential books.

I found this hard. Not because of the lack of books. Not because most of them weren’t memorable, or altered my perspective in some way. Simply because there are so many great books it’s hard to play favourites. But, keeping in mind that these are the most influential books (not necessarily the ‘best’, whatever best means). Perhaps, in very different ways, these stories highlighted something about the human condition that left a mark. Perhaps they simply came along at a particular point in my life that needed the message they offered. Who knows?

They are an eclectic list of fiction that highlight very different phases of my life, for very different reasons. But don’t they say life begins at forty? So perhaps the best is yet to come.
