Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star, and Martin Scorsese to direct, in the adaptation of Erik Larson’s non-fiction book, The Devil in the White City.
Larson’s book reveals the true tale of Dr Henry Howard Holmes (played by DiCaprio), thought to be the first known serial killer in America. In 1893 in Chicago, Holmes opened a hotel which he had designed and built for himself specifically with murder in mind, and which was the location of many of his murders. While he confessed to 27 murders, of which nine were confirmed, his actual body count could be over 200. He brought an unknown number of his victims, many young women, to his World's Fair Hotel, luring them from the World’s Fair, which was held in Jackson Park.
It will be the sixth time Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have worked together. They have previously collaborated on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street.
The Devil in the White City will be released in 2017. Buy the book here and read it ahead of the film release.
