This school holidays children’s theatre company Monkey Baa present Milli, Jack and the Dancing Cat, based on the delightful picture book by Stephen Michael King, shortlisted in 2004 for the Children's Book Council Book of the Year Award in the Picture Book category.
Milli is a shoemaker who loves to fix things. She can transform a piece of a wire into a thing of beauty. But instead she has to make boring old work boots for the people around her who have no interest in her creations. They want ordinary, practical boots. So every day Milli dreams of doing something other than making brown boots.
One morning Milli meets Jack and the Dancing Cat. They teach Milli to dance and inspire her to create the extraordinary. The stage transforms from its bland beginning to a vibrant set full of colour.
The adaptation is beautifully done, with a good deal of humour for the children.
Aimed at 3- 9 year old, Milli, Jack and the Dancing Cat is presented as a musical at Monkey Baa’s new home, Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre. The informal studio-style of the theatre makes it the perfect home for this award winning children’s theatre company. There is easy parking with a car park next door and a number of terrific child friendly cafes to enjoy after the show. A perfect outing this school holidays. The production goes for 55 minutes.
Darling Quarter Theatre is at Terrace 3/1-25 Harbour Street, Sydney. The season starts today and concludes on July 27 with productions at 11am and 1pm. Tickets are available here.
