If you are after a gripping thriller then look no further.

Solitude Creek is the fourth Kathryn Dance novel. It takes its premise of fear from the tragic Hillsborough disaster which occurred on 15 April 1989 at the 1988-89 FA cup semi-final match at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. A crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others. It remains the worst stadium-related disaster in British history, and one of the world's worst football disasters.

Deaver’s latest novel opens with a similar human stampede leading to a crush which results in death and injury. It is a compelling opening set in a dark club with music roaring in Solitude Creek. Only after an announcement has been made for all guests to exit does fear kick in leading to human behaviour Deaver describes as “one big creature, staggering around, squeezing towards the door ...”

Kathryn Dance finds herself making routine insurance checks on the roadhouse fire in Solitude Creek. An expert in human behaviour she realises that something sinister is going on. Demoted after she loses a lead in spectacular fashion, Dance is determined to investigate the fire.

Someone is using fear to generate panic, setting in motion a stampede that leads to death. Dance begins to investigate in a bid to discover the identity of the person behind the attack.

An outstanding thriller from a master of manipulation.
