Polly is set on heading west, having abandoned her husband and three-year-old daughter. There are secrets in her past that draw her to a non-descript place where no one will ask too many questions. She meets Adam In a bar called the High-Ho, the sort of bar you just pass through but don’t ending up staying.
They don’t meet by chance. Adam is a private investigator, charged with keeping tabs on Polly. Adam tells Polly he’s just passing through but he stays, drawn to Polly, and ready to make his move. Over the summer, Polly and Adam abandon themselves to a steamy, affair. But they are both keeping dangerous secrets from each other.
Despite their tempestuous affair neither of them trust the other. When someone dies, questions are asked and implications made clear. Was it an accident, or part of a plan? Adam and Polly are so ensnared in each other’s lives and lies that neither one knows how to get away—or even if they want to.
