The best British novel of all time is ...

According to a recent survey of readers outside the UK, Middlemarch is the best British novel of all time.

Here are the top eleven British novels – we wanted to ensure Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was included in the list. She is just outside the top ten. Charles Dickens features three times with David Copperfield, Bleak House and Great Expectations and Virginia Woolf twice with To The Lighthouse and Mrs Dalloway.
