By Sophia Whitfield

Debut author Sarah Bailey’s crime thriller is a gripping read.

Rosalind Ryan, a beautiful young drama teacher is murdered, her body left in a lake surrounded by roses. It is the evening after her first successful drama performance for the local school, a school she attended as a student. Adored by her students and the staff she should be celebrating her success but instead she is lying dead in a lake.

Young mother Detective Gemma Woodstock and her partner Felix are called in to investigate the case. Gemma was at school with the young teacher, a fact she conceals from her boss. But Gemma has history with Rosalind and is keen to be given the case.

As Gemma delves deeper into Rosalind’s background long held secrets are revealed that threaten to draw Gemma back into her murky past. Her home life is on the brink and the emergence of ghosts from her past could just push her over the edge.

The flawed Gemma is a relatable narrator. She is a young working mother looking after a son, in a fractured relationship. Her work has been her salvation, until the untimely death of Rosalind Ryan.

Bailey builds the tension creating suspense right up until the final reveal. A compelling thriller you will not be able to put down. Buy the book here.
