Paula Hawkins’ runaway bestseller The Girl on a Train placed Hawkins into the world’s highest paid author list for the first time a few months ago.
It has been a success story for an author who had previously written romance under a different name before switching genres to write her first thriller.
The Girl on the Train was made into a film starring Emily Blunt galvanising further sales for Hawkins who today announced the title of her second novel, and yes it’s a thriller.
Into the Water is described as “an addictive novel of psychological suspense about the slipperiness of the truth, and a family drowning in secrets”.
“This story has been brewing for a good while,” declared Hawkins. “For me there is something irresistible about the stories we tell ourselves, the way voices and truths can be hidden consciously or unconsciously, memories can be washed away and whole histories submerged. Then two sisters appeared, and the novel began to form.”
Published worldwide on Tuesday 2nd May, Sarah Adams, who edited the book, commented:
“Into The Water drips with suspicion and the ghostly echoes of the past. It is a menacing, moving, deeply satisfying read which entranced me from first page to last.”
We can’t wait. You can pre-order the book here in Australia and here in the UK.
