This concludes Academy award-winning director Peter Jacksonís trilogy. The final film adapted from JRR Tolkienís classic The Hobbit takes audiences back to Middle-earth. It has been thirteen years since Peter Jackson first took us into Middle-earth with Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001.

The tale continues the story of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and their fellow dwarves.
It opens with fire breathing dragon Smaug (spoken by Benedict Cumberbatch) destroying Lake-town in a fiery rampage. As a result men, women and children are slaughtered and those who survive are left homeless.

Meanwhile Thorin succumbs to dragon-sickness. He guards the treasure on the mountian, still seeking the Arkenstone. Themes of greed and power are writ large on the screen as Thorin battles his demons.

Bilbo is forced to make a choice to save his fellow men. As Orcs converge on the Lonely Mountain, Elves, Men and Dwarves must decide their fate.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey. It is the scenes between him and Bilbo that are the most moving. They will both be missed.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is released on Boxing Day.
