If you are a fan of the Isabel Dalhousie novels then you will delight in Alexander McCall Smith’s latest addition to the series.

Isabel is one of Edinburgh’s most generous philanthropists and editor of the Review of Applied Ethics which she largely finances herself. While Isabel is content with her beloved Jamie and son Charlie, the arrival of two academics unsettles her. Their paths have crossed in the past and their dealings have not always been pleasant. Ruffled by this new addition to the Edinburgh academic scene Isabel has to put her own harsh judgments aside.

Far more troubling is the story of a young boy who is convinced he has had a former life. Known as the person to go to for assistance, Isabel finds herself embroiled in this boy’s double life. His worried mother Kristen seeks Isabel’s help to source the reason for her son’s illusion.

As Isabel puts the finishing touches on the next edition of the Review – the Happiness issue, she discovers not everyone’s life is quite what it seems.

The tenth fabulous story in the Isabel Dalhousie series will leave you wanting more.
