The return of Big Little Lies

The popular HBO series Big Little Lies is to continue with a second season next year.

Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are both set to return in the title roles as Celeste Wright and Madeline MacKenzie. They both expressed their excitement at continuing with the project.

Reese Witherspoon said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists … It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.”

Kidman added: “This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world… What a journey this has been. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends.”

Liane Moriarty, author of the book, is involved in the second season. Moriarty said: “It was too much fun to see what I could do and to see these characters again. And there’s definitely places you can go…”

Most of the original cast is set to return with four new cast members being introduced. David E. Kelly has already written the episodes for the second season which will be directed by Andrea Arnold (Wuthering Heights). Filming is due to begin in March 2018.
