2013 Radio City Christmas Spectacular

This is a New York institution which first began in 1933. It stars the Rockettes who dance with such precision through a number of Christmas favourites. The show finishes with the Christmas Story and a ‘Living Nativity’. Parade of the Wooden Soldiers is one of the numbers that has been in the show since 1933 and is exquisitely executed by the dancers. There is nothing like it. The enormous Radio City was packed with adult and children alike celebrating the festive season.

Betrayal

A Harold Pinter play starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Rafe Spall.

The Ethel Barrymore theatre is a tiny theatre on Broadway. Many theatres are small and have no foyer, so guests with tickets must queue on the streets until the doors open, which is quite cold in the snow!  The Ethel Barrymore is a gorgeous little theatre, perfect for this play.

The sets are exquisite and change with every scene, moving simply on and off stage. There are nine scenes which start in 1977 and go back in time. The costumes reflect the 70s. The three actors all manage to look good even in their flares.

I loved this play and can’t recommend it highly enough. The only disappointment was the rudeness of the audience who refused to turn off mobile phones despite being asked to do so several times before the start of the play. I had never heard so many phones go off in a theatre! Despite this the audience gave the cast a standing ovation which was well deserved.

Pippin

Currently playing at the Music Box Theatre, another small theatre on Broadway. We were lucky enough to see Patina Miller playing her Tony Award winning role. She was fabulous. This show has so much vitality. It is set in a circus big top and has some deftifying acts carried out by the cast including a US Olympic gymnast. On the night we attended Erik Altemus played the lead role and my daughter fell in love! An edgy , different and thoroughly entertaining show.
