Little, Brown has just secured a two book deal with 27-year-old Australian Hannah Kent. The first novel, Burial Rites, is about the last woman to be beheaded, in front of the masses, in 1830.
Congratulations to Gillian Mears. Foal’s Bread had been shortlisted for the 2011 WA Premier’s Books Awards and has won the Australian Literary society (ALS) Gold Medal.
Publishers Weekly reported that Neil Gaiman has signed a five book deal with HarperCollins, three novel and two picture books. The picture books feature a very cute Panda named Chu. Here is a first look at the cover of Chu’s Day from illustrator, Adam Rex. The book will be released on January 8, 2013.
A few exceptional pieces of literary art went under the hammer this week. A ring belonging to Jane Austen sold for £150,000 and a set of four original watercolours by Beatrix Potter featuring five little pigs fetched £95,000. The illustrations were originally published in Cecily Parsley’s Nursery Rhymes in 1922.
British journalist Sophie Morgan has landed a book deal with Penguin which they are touting as the ‘real’ Fifty Shades of Grey.
In Diary of a Submissive, Sophie Morgan candidly explains what exactly an independent, 21st century woman gets out of relinquishing her power and personal freedom in a submissive relationship with a dominant man for their mutual sexual pleasure.
Described as daring and controversial, Penguin will release the title in September.
