Starring Hollywood A-lister Maggie Gyllenhaal and written by the brilliant Hugo Blick, The Honourable Woman is closer to being a spy thriller than a drama, sharpened with a political edge based on people who operate in the shadows of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Secrets and lies are their stock and trade, while murder and coercion is their modus operandi.
As a young girl, Nessa Stein (Gyllenhaal) witnessed the assassination of her father by the armed wing of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation. Now in her thirties, Nessa is at the forefront the Middle East peace process.
The newly made Baroness must fight conspiring forces after she awards a lucrative contract to a Palestinian businessman. A murder and a kidnapping quickly send Nessa down the rabbit hole of government paranoia and espionage.
