We were hooked straight away. Ruth Wilson and Dominic West together was enough for us. But then it got better.
West plays Noah, a teacher who has just had his first book published. He is happy with his wife (Maura Tierney) and four children but is dreading heading off for the summer holidays to stay with his wife’s family. His father-in-law is a haughty, successful author who scathingly remarks over drinks with Noah that everyone has one book in them but almost nobody has two.
On the way to the grand mansion, Noah and family stop at a roadside cafe where he meets waitress Alison (Ruth Wilson). Alison is still grieving from a heartbreaking tragedy putting her relationship with her husband Cole (Joshua Jackson) in jeopardy.
As the first episode comes to an end two narratives of the same events, both slightly different, are revealed, one told by Noah and one by Alison. The narratives are being told to the police revealing something has occurred that implicates both of them. The mystery continues as Episode 2 goes to air on Foxtel’s showcase next Tuesday. We will be watching!
Did we mention Ruth Wilson won a Golden Globe for her role in The Affair?
If you want to catch up on the first episode it will go to air again at 5:35pm on Sunday 15th February.
